Privacy Policy

• You can browse hairpair and take the match quiz without an account. Without one, your quiz answers stay on your device.
• We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
• AI is used only to suggest labels for professionals' photos. Your quiz answers and messages are never sent to an AI.
• Professionals' portfolio photos are public on purpose, so clients and search engines can find their work.
• You can delete your account, and your photos, at any time.

hairpair ("we," "us") runs hairpair.ai, a site where clients find hair stylists and barbers by the work in their portfolios. We're based in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, and we're responsible for (the "controller" of) the personal information described here. Questions or requests: privacy@hairpair.ai.

If you browse without an account

• Quiz answers (what you're looking for, hair type, goals, budget, vibe) and, if you share it, your approximate location or ZIP code. These stay in your browser's storage on your device; we don't receive them.
• Anonymous quiz counts, only if you tick "Help improve these questions": your five answers, with no name, account, location or device ID.

If you have a client account

• Account: your email address and name, or your Google account email and name if you sign in with Google.
• Match profile: your quiz answers, and your location if you share it. Device location is rounded to about 1 km before it's saved; you can enter a ZIP code instead.
• Messages and bookings: messages you send professionals, booking requests and their status, and any notes you add.
• Reviews: ratings and feedback you leave after an appointment.
• Your choices: the data-sharing settings in Privacy settings (all off unless you turn them on).

If you're a stylist or barber

• Profile: name, profile photo, salon name and address, services, prices, specialties, certifications you list, experience, and links like your Instagram or booking page.
• Portfolio: photos you upload or import from your Instagram download, their captions, and the labels on them. We remove hidden location and camera data from photos when you upload them.
• Contact details such as your email and phone number, and your weekly stats email preference.
• Activity on your profile: counts of views and taps on your profile and photos, for your weekly stats.

If you report a photo or contact us

• Your name, email, the link you report and what you tell us, so we can act on it and keep a record.

Collected automatically

• Anonymous usage statistics: which pages are viewed and buttons tapped, the referring site, and whether it was a phone or computer. No name, account, IP address or device ID is stored with them.
• Crawler visits: visits from search engines and AI crawlers (their name and user agent), to see which pages they read.
• Server logs kept by our hosting provider, which include IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

• To run hairpair for you (your account, matches, messages, bookings, professionals' profiles and portfolios): because it's needed to provide the service you asked for.
• Matching: a weighted algorithm compares your answers with what each professional specializes in. No one can pay to rank higher.
• Making portfolios findable: professionals' photos and profiles are published and offered to search engines, because that's the point of a portfolio.
• Improving hairpair with anonymous usage statistics and, if you agree, anonymous quiz counts: our legitimate interest in a working, useful site, or your consent.
• Emails: account and booking emails you need, and for professionals a weekly stats email you can turn off in one click.
• Safety and the law: preventing spam and abuse, handling reports, keeping records we're required to keep, and answering lawful requests.

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time in Privacy settings or by emailing privacy@hairpair.ai.

When a professional adds a photo, the photo and its caption are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to suggest short labels for the look and to screen out photos that don't show hair work. Professionals can change or remove any label. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this content isn't used to train its AI models. AI doesn't create or edit photos, doesn't decide matches, and never sees your quiz answers or messages.

We don't sell personal information. We share it only with:

We also share information:

• Between clients and professionals, as the service requires: for example your name and message go to the professional you contact.
• Publicly, for professionals' profiles and portfolio photos (see section 7).
• When the law requires it, or to protect people's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of hairpair (the buyer would be bound by this policy).

We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising, and we don't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We don't share any data with haircare brands, beauty schools or other partners. The choices in Privacy settings are for anonymous, combined statistics we may offer in the future; they're off unless you turn them on, and we'll update this policy before anything is shared.

Because we don't track you across sites or sell or share your information for ads, there's nothing for a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. If that ever changes, we'll honor those signals.

A professional's profile and portfolio photos are public: anyone can see them, and search engines and AI assistants (like Google or ChatGPT) can read and show them. A professional can delete any photo at any time. After deletion, search engines may show an old copy for a while until they update.

Professionals must have permission from anyone shown in their photos (and a parent or guardian's permission for anyone under 18). If you're in a photo and want it removed, report it; see our copyright & removal policy.

• Your account and profile: until you delete your account.
• When you delete your account: your account, profile, portfolio photos and messages are deleted right away. Records that also belong to someone else, like a booking with a professional, may stay in their history. Backups held by our database provider are overwritten on its regular schedule.
• Anonymous usage statistics (pages viewed, taps): 25 months, then deleted automatically.
• Search engine and AI crawler visits: 25 months, then deleted automatically.
• Anonymous quiz answers (only if you ticked "Help improve these questions"): 25 months, then deleted automatically.
• Records of AI photo-label requests, used to limit usage: 3 months, then deleted automatically.
• Photo reports: 3 years after they're closed, as a record of what we did.
• Server logs at our hosting provider: kept for a short time under its own policy.

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• See the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy in a portable format.
• Correct it (most of it you can edit yourself).
• Delete it. You can delete your account yourself in your account or Privacy settings.
• Object to or limit how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time.

Email privacy@hairpair.ai and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm it's you. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. You can ask someone to make a request for you.

In the EU, UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. In US states with privacy laws (such as California), you have these rights too; we don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer things about you.

hairpair is run from the United States, and our providers may process information in the US and other countries. Where the law requires it, transfers rely on safeguards in our providers' data processing terms, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

• Sign-in: keeps you logged in (stored in your browser).
• Guest quiz: your quiz answers and matches if you don't have an account.
• Progress and preferences: an unfinished sign-up, where to return after signing in, whether you've seen a tip, and a copy of your bookings so they load faster.

These are needed for the site to work. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Clearing your browser storage signs you out and resets a guest quiz.

Accounts are for people 18 and older, and hairpair isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we delete it. Photos of children's haircuts may appear in professionals' portfolios only with a parent or guardian's permission, and they're kept out of search engines. To report a concern, use the report form or email privacy@hairpair.ai.

We use encryption in transit, access rules on our database so people can see only what they're allowed to, limited admin access, and regular security checks. No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong, we'll tell affected people and authorities as the law requires. To report a security issue, email privacy@hairpair.ai.

When we change this policy, we update the effective date above. For important changes, we'll also tell you by email or on the site before they take effect.
